Tiki- that idealization of South Seas style which reached fever pitch in the 1950s- is in again. At the spring collection, the big kahunas of design sent models down the runway in floral prints (Gucci, Ralph Lauren) and plastic leis (Miu Miu). The grand-daddy of lava rock joints, Trader Vics is making a comeback, and has begun an expansion by bringing its florescent cocktails and pan oceanic pupa platter to Berlina and Palo Alto. And the team behind the luxe spa at the Begawan Girl, in Bali has opened in San Diego’s Spa Tiki, featuring soaks, fruity drinks, and enough bamboo décor to make clients feel, ever so momentarily, transported to the tropics (www.spatiki.com)
